Why steps get separate attention
Steps are where most winter slips happen. Snow compacts quickly underfoot, edges disappear, and a tread that looks clear can still hold a glaze. We treat steps as their own task rather than something to sweep through at the end of the walkway.
Our method
Each tread is cleared by hand, front to back, and the nosing of every step is defined so you can see where one ends and the next begins. Corners and the strip against the riser get the same attention, because that is where snow packs into ice over a long season.
Railings and landings
The landing at the top of the steps is cleared along with the treads, so there is somewhere dry to stand while you unlock the door. Where a railing is present we clear the snow along its base so your grip stays available the whole way up.
Adding traction
Steps are the most common place customers add our pet friendly traction sand. On stone and concrete treads a light application gives noticeably better grip on the mornings that follow a thaw and refreeze.
